Edition #10, March 2008 Research Newsletter from the DPI Victoria Greenhouse in Agriculture (GIA) team is now available, including the Western Australian Nitrous Oxide Research project.

Methane (CH₄) is one of the major greenhouse gases being targeted for reduction by the Kyoto protocol. The focus of recent research in animal science has thus been to develop or improve existing CH₄ prediction models to evaluate mitigation strategies to reduce overall CH₄ emissions. Eighty-three beef and 89 dairy data sets were collected and used to develop statistical models of CH₄ production using dietary variables.

 Meeting notes of the inaugural LEARN meeting held in Christchurch , New Zealand on  1December 2007. Involving 25 representatives from countries around the globe, the meeting started the process of increased collaboration in developing agricultural GHG mitigation and abatement.

A literature review and development of three methods to describe how anthropogenic nitrous oxide emissions from pastoral agriculture soils can be reduced using nitrification inhibitors.
